"rule of recognition"; "trap street"

For several months now I've been trying to recall the legal term of art for "legal conventional wisdom," or the general understanding that something is the law, even though it was never codified and has never developed as common law. The phrase I was looking for was rule of recognition. Yay, me!

For almost as many months, Mithras has been trying to remember the term for the deliberate errors that mapmakers introduce into their maps to catch copyright violators. The term is trap street. Yay, Google and Wikipedia!

Well, technically, I have spent months forgetting to try to remember the phrase. But that's because I'm getting old.

What was I talking about?

I dunno what the context was. It came up at Driberally 2 or 3 times, but it seemed to me that you were trying to remember it for a conversation outside of Driberally (or at least outside of a conversation with me).

Do you know, I've had 2 people come up to me at school in the past week saying something like, "Hey, Glomar, you always seem to know these kinds of things," and then asking me something obscure. What a reputation.
